Pour Over Coffee
Step-by-Step Guide to Brewing Pour Over Coffee at Home
How to use a Pour Over Coffee Maker
1. Boil Water:
- First thing's first, boil your water! We'r looking for around 93°C.
2. Grind Coffee Beans:
- When it comes to grinding your coffee beans, you first need to weigh your coffee beans.
- So we recommend you weigh out around 25 grams of coffee beans from Fonzie Abbott Specialty Coffee Roastery. This will provide you enough coffee for a standard 12 oz cup, a typical mug of coffee.
Now lets grind them!
- Grind your coffee beans to a medium to fine consistency, you want it to resemble a coarse sand-like texture.
3. Pre-wet the Filter:
- So, we need to pre-wet the filter, sounds weird but we promise it's necessary! Place the filter in the dripper and rinse it with hot water, this will remove any paper taste and preheat the brewing vessel.
4. Add Ground Coffee:
- Now lets place the ground coffee into the pre-wet filter, give it a little shake to level out the grounds in order to have an even extraction across the surface.
5. Bloom the Coffee:
- Bloom time! Start your timer and pour just enough hot water (about twice the weight of the coffee, so around 50 grams) over the grounds to fully saturate them.
- Now let the coffee bloom for 30 seconds, the coffee will start to releases gases.
6. Begin Pouring:
- After the coffee has bloomed, start to pour the remaining water. Do this in a slow, steady spiral motion. You want to start from the center and slowly moving outwards.
- Keep the water level consistent but avoid pouring directly onto the filter walls.
7. Control Pour Rate:
- Aim for a total brew time of 3-4 minutes.
- Adjust your pour rate to maintain a steady flow, pouring in intervals to keep the water level consistent.
8. Remove Dripper and Serve:
- Once the coffee has finished brewing, remove the dripper and discard the used grounds.
- Swirl the brewed coffee gently in the vessel to mix up al of those flavours!
9. Enjoy Your Pour Over Coffee!
- Pour the coffee into your favorite mug and feel the rich flavours and aromas of Sweet FA trickle down your throat.
