French Press / Plunger
Step-by-Step Guide to Brewing French Press Coffee at Home
1. Gather Your Equipment:
- You will need a French press (also known as a plunger), freshly ground coffee beans, a digital scale, kettle.
2. Boil Water:
- Heat filtered water to around 93°C. Bring it to a boil and then let it sit for about 30 seconds to achieve the ideal temperature.
3. Measure Your Coffee and Water:
- Use a digital scale to measure out the appropriate amount of coffee. A good starting point is 1 tablespoon of coffee per 4 ounces of water.
- Measure the water according to your desired serving size.
4. Grind Your Coffee:
- Grind your coffee beans to a coarse consistency, similar to breadcrumbs.
5. Add Coffee to French Press:
- Place the French press on the scale and add the ground coffee to the empty carafe.
6. Add Hot Water:
- Slowly pour the hot water over the coffee grounds, ensuring all grounds are saturated.
- Stir the mixture gently to ensure even extraction.
7. Steep the Coffee:
- Place the lid on the French press with the plunger pulled all the way up to seal in heat.
- Set a timer for 4 minutes and allow the coffee to steep.
8. Plunge and Pour:
- After 4 minutes, slowly press the plunger down, separating the grounds from the brewed coffee.
- Pour the brewed coffee into your mug immediately to prevent over-extraction.
9. Serve and Enjoy your Sweet FA!
