Creating the Perfect Home Espresso
Espresso Machine Edition
Step-by-Step Guide to Brewing Espresso at Home
1. Grind Your Coffee Beans:
- Grind your FA beans to a fine consistency, resembling table salt.
2. Preheat Your Espresso Machine:
- Turn on your espresso machine and allow it to warm up for at least 15 minutes to ensure proper temperature stability.
3. Measure the Coffee:
- Use a digital scale to measure the correct amount of coffee grounds. Aim for around 18-20 grams for a double shot.
4. Tamp the Grounds:
- Place the grounds into the portafilter and evenly distribute them.
- Firmly tamp the grounds to create a level, compact puck.
5. Flush the Group Head:
- Before brewing, run a short burst of water through the group head to flush out any old coffee residue and ensure a clean extraction.
6. Lock in the Portafilter and Start Brewing:
- Start the extraction process immediately after locking in the portafilter to minimize heat loss.
7. Monitor Extraction Time:
- Aim for an extraction time of 25-30 seconds for a double shot.
- Adjust your grind size if the extraction is too fast or too slow.
8. Observe the Espresso:
- Watch the espresso as it extracts. It should have a steady flow and a rich, golden crema forming on top.
